Description
The HVACR Commercial Start-Up Foreman is responsible for managing and performing the start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and final testing of commercial HVACR systems. This position ensures systems are fully operational, code-compliant, and meet both manufacturer and project specifications. The foreman also coordinates closely with construction teams, subcontractors, and controls technicians to deliver high-quality project closeouts.
Requirements
• Perform start-up, testing, and commissioning of HVAC systems (rooftop units, VAVs, chillers, boilers, split systems, etc.)
• Review and interpret mechanical plans, specifications, and control schematics
• Ensure systems are balanced, operational, and perform to design intent
• Lead and supervise small teams of start-up technicians or helpers on-site
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment performance or control integration issues
• Document all test data, startup reports, and deficiencies
• Coordinate with controls contractors for system integration and calibration
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and company policies
• Communicate status updates and technical findings with project managers and clients
• Provide training to building owners or maintenance staff during turnover

Qualifications
• 5+ years of hands-on HVACR experience; at least 2 years in a commercial/start-up role
• EPA Universal Certification required
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Strong understanding of HVACR equipment, DDC/BAS controls, and system commissioning
• Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
• Familiarity with air and water balancing preferred
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
• OSHA 10/30 certification preferred

• Comfortable working on ladders, rooftops, and in mechanical rooms
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and jobsite environments
